"Purification"
A performance video by "Atalantos Paroxysmos" - Danai Gkougia and Athanasia Tsatsou- which was part of the "Noli me Tangere" project of Nikos Charalambidis and firstly exhibited at 2nd Sculpture Studio of ASFA, during Platforms Project 2021
Σώμα, νους και πνεύμα δοκιμάζονται σε μία διαδικασία εξαγνισμού. Το σώμα πλένεται, προσπαθεί να καθαριστεί. Ο άνθρωπος βρίσκεται σε μία συνεχόμενη εσωτερική πάλη, προσπαθώντας να αφήσει πίσω του οτιδήποτε θεωρεί πως τον βρωμίζει . Το πλύσιμο του σώματος με τη μανιώδης κίνηση του τριψίματος, μετατρέπεται σε ένα είδος σύγχρονης μυσταγωγίας. Ο ήχος δεν είναι άλλος από τον ήχο της θάλασσας, της κίνησης του νερού. Τελικά, μόνον μέσω της αναγνώρισης και της αποδοχής της «βρωμιάς» μας, μπορεί να επέλθει η κάθαρσις.
Στην σύγχρονη κοινωνία, δύο καλλιτέχνιδες ( Δανάη Γκούγια, Αθανασία Τσάτσου) συμπράττουν εικαστικώς : ο παροξυσμός τους ως απόρροια της εποχής που ζουν, δηλωμένος ως ατάλαντος. Σε μία συνεχόμενη κατάσταση ανασφάλειας, η επιβεβαίωση ζητείται ως ανάγκη. Σε μία, όμως, κατάσταση αποδόμησης, το στοιχείο της επιβεβαίωσης εκλείπει και τελικά προκύπτει το άλφα στερητικό. Η αντίφαση. Ο ταλαντούχος μονομιάς μπορεί να γίνει ατάλαντος , απότομος, ανεξέλεγκτος. Οι δράσεις του ατάλαντου παροξυσμού αποτελούν αντιδράσεις μέσα σε ένα κοινωνικό σύνολο, αποσκοπώντας στην ανακάλυψη του πυρήνα του.
Body, mind and spirit are tested in a process of Purification. The body is being washed, trying to reach clarity. Human exists in a constant internal battle, trying to leave behind anything that is believed to contaminate. The cleaning of the body, along with the manic scrubbing, transform into a kind of contemporary sacrament. The sound is no other than the sound of the sea, the water’s motion. Ultimately, only through acknowledgement and acceptance of our “dirt”, can catharsis be accomplished.
"atalantos paroxysmos" in greek would mean ''untalented paroxysm". In today ’s society two artists (Danai Gkougia and Athanasia Tsatsou ) visually collaborate: their paroxysm declared as untalented. In a constant state of insecurity, confirmation is sought as a necessity. However, in a state of deconstruction, the necessity of confirmation disappears and eventually contradiction exists. A talented one becomes untalented, a calm one becomes fierce, uncontrollable or abrupt at once. Performances of “atalantos paroxysmos”/untalented paroxysm are reactions within society, in order to find out its limits and core.

Performing as an "exotic bird" , in order to be observed by the audience. This performance intends to raise questions about the nature of vision and its role in the process of creating meaning, in shaping identities and in gaining visibility.
